About This Web Site
![]()
Background:
This web site has evolved over the years from being a project for one of my graduate classes at Chapman University, to being a conglomeration of my personal stuff, to now being a site dedicated to various aspects of my Naval career and the people who inspired me the most.
Although still just a conglomeration of my personal stuff, my motivation for changing the theme of this site actually came from my oldest son. At the ripe old age of 20 years old, he will be entering active duty in the US Navy in September, 2001. Just as all who enter active duty, he has a long, hard road ahead of him. I wanted to give my son a place where he could always go to see what is possible to achieve, especially when he is feeling discouraged (and he WILL) and needs to be able to refocus on the target. I hope some day to be able to tell everyone about my son, "The Chief!"
The dominating theme of this site at present is a tribute to military people, especially Sailors, and their spouses everywhere. I started out as a smart-ass teenager from Colorado, and ended up a Naval Officer by the time I retired 20 years later... now I'm a teacher (Go Figure!) Trust me: This level of success just isn't possible unless you are married to an angel, and surrounded by top-notch people. In 1980 I married the girl of my dreams, and we have been together ever since... she is the reason I made the Navy a 20 year career. My beautiful bride is the light of my life: without her I wouldn't have come this far. I was also fortunate and blessed enough to work for, and shoulder to shoulder with the brightest people our nation has to offer... this somehow rubbed off on me a little. When I retired, I really landed on my feet: I am now surrounded by the best and brightest teachers in the mid-west/great plains region of the United States!
Site History:
|
Spring 1995: |
I wrote my first personal web site as a final project for a graduate course in training and development at Chapman University. |
| Spring 1996: | The site changed to include my resume, and various "job seeking" links to reflect my imminent departure from active duty. |
| Summer 1997: | I am using the site as a place for my personal information, and to allow my students to see a little bit about my background. |
| Summer 2001: | Theme of this site changes to reflect my admiration of Navy people and my wife, and as a virtual "inspirational" tool for my oldest son who will enter active duty. |
| Fall 2001: | This site migrated from @Home server to wflinn.com server in San Diego, California. This will make this site faster to access, and allow me to organize the files a little better, plus allow for a lot for room and bandwidth :) |
| Spring 2004: | This site was updated with a separate photography page. All of the photo galleries can be seen from both the "Intruder" page and this new "Photography" page. |
| Spring 2006: | Site updated to include link to 1988 deployment page in the photo gallery. |
| Spring 2007: | Site domain changed fom wflinn.com to gonzosgarage.net |
This Web Site is dedicated to all Chief Petty Officers and Limited Duty Officers everywhere,
and to the countless Sailors who make up our "All Volunteer" forces. To these people, and their spouses,
who willingly sacrifice their own "normal" lives so that we may keep our way of life:
God-Speed to all of you!
