Mount Evans is located South West of Denver, just South of Idaho Springs.  The mountain was named after an early Colorado Governor.  The road going to the summit of Mt. Evans is the highest paved roadway in North America, reaching an altitude of 14, 260 feet above sea level.

Notice that the altitude is high enough that trees don't even grow - a few of the photos clearly show the distinct tree-line.  Also notice the warning sign at the top of the mountain.  Oxygen at that altitude is only 40% of that at sea level.

These pictures were taken along the route to Mount Evans Highway, which includes parts of Arapahoe National Forest.  Also included are Echo Lake, Summit Lake (which is still frozen) and the top of Mount Evans itself.

Be sure to see Katie's photos.  She took them with one of my digital cameras.
