From Fort Collins, take College Avenue (Highway 287) South through Loveland to highway 34.  Take highway 34 to Estes Park, and have lunch!.  Go west on highway 34 to Rocky Mountain National Park.  Keep going - you can take Trail Ridge Road up and into the park to the Alpine Visitor's Center and over the Continental Divide, with its highest point at 12,100 feet above sea level.
